Before Brooke was coached by pop star coach Miley Cyrus on The Voice, she lived with her family in her hometown of Hollister, North Carolina. Brooke's hometown has been a home to her family's Haliwa-Saponi tribe for generations since the early 18th century. Brooke's tribe is made up of over 4,000 citizens that live in North Carolina and various countries across the world. Brooke was born on May 26, 1991, which means she recently celebrated her 30th birthday. Brooke's parents, Jimille and Mike Mills, had two children eight years after having Brooke named Leah and Mikey. Brooke met Ray Simpson, a pastor, and musician, in 2012. The couple got married in 2014 and moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Brooke made her reality television debut on The Voice season 13 in 2017. For her blind audition, Brooke performed "Stone Cold" by Demi Lovato. Brooke's talent was immediately recognized as all four judges turned their chairs in hopes of claiming Brooke as a member of their team. Ultimately, former Hannah Montana star Miley claimed Brooke. With impressive renditions of songs like "O Holy Night," "Wrecking Ball," and her original song, "What Is Beautiful," Brooke made it to the finale. Unfortunately, Brooke received fewer votes than her season 13 contenders, Addison Agen, and winner Chloe Kohanski. Brooke placed third on The Voice but continued to have a successful career in music after her disappointing finale.

After The Voice, Brooke started releasing her own music. Brooke's first single, "2am", came out on February 2, 2018. She has continued to release new singles periodically. From February 2018 to the release of Brooke's latest single, "i got you," in November 2020, the singer has shared eleven original singles. Brooke's music can be downloaded on Spotify as well as on all streaming services. On Spotify, Brooke currently has over 10,000 monthly listeners, and her most popular song, "Little Bit Crazy," has accumulated almost 250,000 streams.
