Kang The Conqueror's Just Exposed His Own Greatest Weakness

Warning! Spoilers for Kang The Conqueror #1 below

Marvel's Kang The Conqueror just had his greatest weakness exposed as a younger version of himself discovered what really makes his future self tick. In Kang's first ongoing series, a younger Nathaniel Richards saw how his love and the loss of Ravonna Renslayer affected the villain - driving him to drink and forbid the younger version from falling in love. Richards just used Kang's weakness to escape his grasp.

Kang the Conqueror is one of Marvel's most sinister villains, as the time-traveling supervillain has become one of the Avengers' biggest threats. With multiple versions of Kang - ranging from Immortus, Rama Tut, and the Scarlet Centurion - existing throughout all eras of time, taking him down is no small feat. Before becoming Kang the Conqueror, Nathaniel Richards lived in the 31st Century, where he would soon learn how to travel throughout history. Eventually, he would use his knowledge of navigating through space and time to try to conquer all. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a variant of Kang (played by Jonathan Majors) appeared in Loki, while the actor will play the villain in Antman and the Wasp: Quantumania.

In Kang the Conqueror #1 by Jackson Lanzing, Collin Kelly, Carlos Magno, Espen Grundetjern, and VC's Joe Caramagna, Nathaniel Richards is confronted by Kang the Conqueror, who promises to take the young man from learning history in Doctor Doom's library to making it across time. The pair travel back to the prehistoric age, where Kang trains Nathaniel to become stronger and survive. However, during their training, Kang gets drunk and travels to a far-off world, where he witnesses the death of his one true love, Ravonna Renslayer. Richards sees Kang cry and is told that he should never love and solely focus on conquering.

However, after meeting a young woman named Adi and falling in love with her - Kang reprimands Nathaniel. After slapping him across the face, Kang destroys Adi and her entire family. Nathaniel responds by stealing Kang's (later intoxicated) costume and weapons leaves him to die as an asteroid wipes out the dinosaurs. Unfortunately, in doing so, he inadvertedly sends himself back in time to the oldest version of Kang, Rama-Tut.

In the issue, Kang's loss of Ravonna Renslayer made him a cynical drunk. After seeing Nathaniel fall in love, he immediately put an end to the new relationship. However, the plan backfired on Kang, as Nathaniel realized losing Ravonna drove Kang to alcoholism and allowed him to take advantage of his future self in a drunken state. Kang The Conqueror #1 reveals the villain has suffered great tragedy and exposed his new greatest weakness: love and loss.
