Pokémon Legends: Arceus To Share New Information "Soon"

The Pokémon Company promises that new information on Pokémon Legends: Arceus will be shared soon. Details about the upcoming open-world Pokémon game for Nintendo Switch have been scarce since its reveal at a February Pokémon Presents stream, but it appears that drought may be coming to an end shortly.

Based on what's known so far, Pokémon Legends: Arceus is taking a new direction for the series that has garnered comparisons to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Players will be able to catch Pokémon in the overworld by throwing Poké Balls at them, and they will also be able to battle them in regular series fashion. However, only a small snippet of battling was shown in the game's reveal trailer, where it was shown that Pokémon Legends: Arceus' starter Pokémon, Rowlet, Cyndaquil, and Oshawott, will all hail from different generations. As the title implies, Mythical Pokémon Arceus is said to play a major role in the game's story, but its exact role is unknown so far. If the Pokémon is the game's catchable Legendary, this would mark the first time Arceus was made catchable outside of an event since the necessary Azure Flute item was never distributed by other means in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl.

VentureBeat interview of The Pokémon Company's Senior Director of Consumer Marketing JC Smith focused on how the Pokémon brand is celebrating its 25th anniversary. When asked about Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Smith stated that there wasn't much he could share at the time but that information on the game is coming "soon." He gave no specifics on how "soon" that could be, but the game is currently slated to release in January 2022.

Similar to the upcoming mainline title, the Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl remakes also haven't been explained much since the remakes' reveal, even though those Nintendo Switch titles are coming on November 19. In July, the reveal of the Switch OLED Model did show some new glimpses of Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl gameplay, which appears to have improved visually since the first showing. However, little is known about what the games may add or change to distinguish them from the Nintendo DS classics. Past Pokémon remakes like FireRed and LeafGreen and Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire have implemented new features to bring the older titles up to speed with current series trends, but it's not clear if the remakes or Pokémon Legends: Arceus will bring back mechanics like dynamaxing.

There are rumors that Pokémon Legends: Arceus will introduce all-new features like an overhauled battle system to the table, though there's no way to know for certain if this is true until more of the game's details are revealed. If Pokémon Legends: Arceus does get the spotlight during a Nintendo Direct or its own Pokémon Presents soon, then it's possible more concrete answers could be given then.
